Reviews for Rubicon Express RE2601 Heavy Duty Tie Rod with Forged Ends for 07-18 Jeep Wrangler JK
Great tierod. I'm not sure how other posters had issues. Compared to other steering set ups out there this tierod is as simple as it gets. To adjust toe is one nut (with one locking bolt to secure) and is the easiest alignment process ever. The 2 hang ups on installation are as follows: brake disks and calipers must be removed to trim the disk backing plate. Why? Otherwise the tierod end rubs them and makes noise. So an angle grinder is required and the caliper mounting bolts are 20mm torqued to 120ft-lbs, it's an extra 30 minute job. Also, the steering stabilizer mount is proprietary. This isn't mentioned anywhere but only the Rubicon Express stabilizer bushing will fit in the bracket as it's a hair narrower then other units on the bushing sleeve(teraflex 9550 will not fit.) If you pair up this tierod with RE's draglink, and you are NOT flipping the draglink mount on the knuckle, you will also need to switch the standard grease zerk with one that has a 90* bend, otherwise you have to drop the tierod to access the standard zerk. Otherwise this tierod has been flawless and amazing for me.
This tie rod is a monster. It's built well and the QA inspection with their parts is seems top notch to me. If you're looking to add a solid tie rod to a beefy build up this one is just fine. If you want to just spend your money on bolt on parts keep looking. The install does require that the rotors get pulled to add spacers for the rotors and the calipers. Also, you need to either removed the dust plate or cut a section of it out. I recommend cutting it. The passenger side knuckle needed to be reamed out or drilled. Drilling the knuckle worked just fine as it is recommended for this install. Don't cut corners, plan on a few hours. don't rush it and you'll appreciate parts like this.
Awesome tie rod, I bent my stock rod badly, I doubt this one will bend.
During install I had to pull calipers and rotors, so I could cut some of the brakes backing plate away. At full lock the tie rod pushed the backing plate into the rotor on both sides. So the install took a few more minutes and tools than instructions said. I highly recommend this tie rod. I have 35s on 17" rims with 5" backspace and all fits great
Tie rod itself is solid but tie rod clamp is weak after over a year of ownership the tie rod clamp Hardware started to rust the camp itself is aluminum but the hardware and nuts rusted out completely one contact in group, Express directly they were rude and could not send out new hardware to me. Nowhere near the customer service that Teraflex gives you. If you're looking for longevity and a company that can stand behind their warranty stay away from Rubicon Express
Bought this as part of a package with Track Bar on special for my stock JK. No where on quadratec page does it mention not working with stock steering stabilizer. Rubicon Express no help either other than spend more money. See my review of package.
Definitely not hassle free installation between steering stabilizer bracket issue and needing to pull brakes and install included spacers.
Wish I had seen other reviews before buying.
First of all be sure to set an entire afternoon aside for this. Between taking the rotors and brake calipers off and the way this tie rod adjusts, it’s gonna be a half day job. Yes it’s huge and beefy but so of the workmanship is terrible. My biggest complaint is the supplied steering dampener bracket is not the one in the pictures. Not only that, when they welded this piece together, it drew inward so the steering stabilizer will not fit between it.
DO NOT buy!!! After a year on my Jeep it has cracked and wobbled out of the threads...the stock tie rod held up longer to 35's.
This tie rod was purchased on 5/16/2018 from Quadretec. The Tie rod is not heavy duty by any means. It is either is a poorly made product or I received a defective unit. I had the tie rod installed by a trained certified technician at the Jeep dealership and during routine driving I discover the tie rod was cracked on the adjustment threads. I will not purchase another Rubicon Express HD Tie rod again, subsequently, I replaced the defective product with a Tera-flex Heavy duty tie-rod on 02/19/2020. I am in the process of contacting Quadratec about the "Lifetime Warranty" to see what my options are.
