Reviews for Alpine i207-WRA 7" In-Dash Digital Receiver for 07-18 Jeep Wrangler JK
I really like this unit, and a huge upgrade over my stock Uconnect 430N. I just wanted something more modern with vehicle rich features (OBD2 integration) such as Apple Car play, HD radio and such. My only issue with the install was getting it back in the dash due to so much wires in the back, but once in it looks great. It does NOT have built in SiriusXM, and will need to get their sxv300 tuner. The adapter comes in the box, so add another $40 if you want the option, but fits in behind the unit without issue.
You can continue to use the center console USB, but I wanted HDMI option as well and read some people have problems getting the stock USB to work with carplay features. Instead, I bought the Alpine HDMI/USB port and placed it in the lower dash above my right knee where there is a perforated hole. Hooked up fine to back of head unit and looks stock.
Cannot comment on weather reliability so far, but sound is very good and features aplenty compared to the Uconnect option. I even pulled the Uconnect box since it has built in Bluetooth. Call quality on the provided mic is excellent compared to stock. Thought of the x409, but could not justify that cost.
Sweet. Great view with the camera, sounds better than stock, lots of settings to make it work the way you want. Make sure you have an older computer to program the majestro. You can put several gauges up to watch if you want, because you connect it to your OBDll port. Lotsa wire to stuff in behind which was the only difficult part of the install.
I really like this radio. The install instructions are not horrible however the actual owners manual that comes with this alpine isn't very good. You really want to download the full manual from the website. One of the biggest irritants about this radio was trying to access the setup menu. You have to pull the Parking Brake in order to access this menu. I ended up having to use the online manual to figure this out. This is the same way I had to figure out there was an option to turn on and off the backup camera as it is not on by default.
I love the options this system gives. The mic picks up very well and even with the softtop on you can hear the voices very well and not the air noise. I like the ability to change how the steering column controls work. That was a plus. Very nice system can't believe however that Alpine didn't make this system water resistant as well.
I’m 8 months in on an Alpine i207 in humid south Alabama. The only issue was with the update prior to the install. You have to have a Microsoft computer, not Mac compatible. My neighbor was nice and let me use his. This was my first instal. I watched a video of the instal and had no issue. It took me about an hour and a half. Voice commands, touch screen work amazing. The sound isn’t as good with blue tooth as it is when connected USB. Apple play only works with a USB connection. The sound is still great. The radio has more power than your factory speakers can handle. It only has a 7 inch screen but are we jeeping or watching movies. I almost forgot you can have a backup camera hooked up to it and integrate lightbars and winches to it. I would definitely recommend this product.
This unit is just what I was looking for! I have a 2017 JKU which came with the 130 radio. I bought it that way knowing I'd be upgrading myself for less than the Jeep brand radio.I think the install went pretty well. I did a LOT of reading on the Wrangler Forum and found that to help immensely! If you're going to install this you really should read the forums. Even if the installation instructions were better I'd have watched the Alpine install video. Other than the cramming of wires to get the unit to fit in the install is just as easy as the video shows. It took me about 2 hours. I had my iPad in the Jeep with me and went through the video as I installed.
I also bought the Kicker speakers for the sound bar and the front dash. What an improvement! I can't imagine needing the whole Alpine speaker/amp package. I have a Bose speaker system in my Z06 and I guess you'd have to say those speakers are 'better' but... the price of 4 Kickers for my Jeep was WELL worth the price, and a must once you upgrade to this unit.
I would recommend this unit and speakers to anyone! Worth the money!
My 2012 Rubicon 2 Door had the factory RES 130 radio. I have been contemplating this upgrade since 2014 when I was looking at the Pioneer line up as a solution. I am glad I waited, I like the features in this Alpine i207-WRA. Additional parts in this upgrade were the KAC-001 and the Sirius Tuner. For the most part the install was easy, I watched the Youtube install videos, which were very helpful. The hardest part was placing the head unit in the bracket and connecting the wires. The wire harness is big and manipulating this into place was difficult. I decided to disconnect all the wires from the head unit and place the wire harness in first then connect it up that way. Several connections we challenging but it was easier then passing the wires through the metal bracket. Once fully installed I needed to update the firmware to get the image of the car changed to a Jeep. Easy enough but took two tries, first time it removed access to my cameras. If/when you run into issues look at the Forum boards like Wrangler Forum. There is a lot of good pointers there. The Sound was much louder then the factory head unit, At this time I have not upgraded my Factory speakers (but I can see that coming) it was almost too loud at level 6 , I used the Alpine TuneIt App on my phone to search by car type and find a good EQ set up. This made all the difference, and saved a lot of time. A big thanks to all who post to it. Lastly I changed the Splash Screen from the factory image to a Beautiful Photo my wife took. You need to have a 800x480 BPM file. I found out how do do this on page 21 of the online manual Do your self a favor and have this with you as you are setting up the radio. I recommend this radio to everyone!
This is a great unit stereo. I would recommend reading the instructions carefully though. The wire harness & maestro adapter, should sit on top the unit with the OEM wiring plugs routed to through the top of the bracket. My buddies and I put this and the speaker upgrade kit in, and they didn't route the plugs right which made me redo it again a few days later. Overall great sound, superb features. Love this unit a ton...
This head unit is awesome! It works flawlessly with my iPhone care of Apple CarPlay. I can use Siri, send text messages, play all of my music through apple and it works flawlessly with my steering wheel buttons. Im a bit disappointed in the instruction manual. The wiring for the Maestro module was not very clear, and when installed by a novice, it could cause some serious problems. The wiring harness is bulky and difficult to get into the radio cavity. I would hope at some point in the future, they find a way to have an option to mount the Maestro module directly onto the head unit. I ran my USB connector to the upper tray on the dash for easier connectivity. Just drilled a hole big enough for the lightning cable to pass through and sealed with a rubber grommet. Looks very nice.
Awesome product. I installed this into a 2017 Wrangler Sport with just the plain basics. So this was a huge upgrade. I now have Android Auto which is amazing, blue tooth for hands free phone calls/music, Hey/Ok Google responses, better sounding radio quality, and I kept all my steering wheel controls plus modified all of them with this install. One thing I did not expect was the car information, it literally tells you how much % of gas you have in the tank, which specific door is open, etc. I also had a Rubicon with a 430N and that thing served a purpose but this stereo is better worth the price and the bluetooth is much better. For the install I used the Alpine install video online and it took me a few hours but it was pretty simple. I had zero experience going into this install when it comes to stereo and audio equipment, so it's plug and play for sure. The only problem I ran into was getting all the wires back in so I could secure the stereo. They make it look so easy in the videos but it's a huge pain. I used the USB cable that comes with it and ran it to my glove box. So if you're like me and didn't have this USB option they mention, don't worry about it. It's in the box. Lastly, I have not attempted to try Android Auto without the USB, so I cannot say if it works with the blue tooth. Some of the features took sometime to adjust and kick in, sounds odd but after two weeks my blue tooth finally worked. Now I can use WhatsApp, facebook calls, etc on my cars stereo.
4 Stars since the main harness I got does not fit the instructions (and the provided instructions do not agree with the instructions on the Apline site). Called Alpine, they are sending a new harness. The one I have is missing the mic-in 3.5mm jack, so nothing to connect the handsfree mic to.
Posted some pics above. Agree this is a '2' but for someone who's used to doing '2' complexity work on their Jeep, if this is your first '2' (or you have no idea how to take apart the whole dash) - might be this should not be your first project.
The features I have working (all but the mic-in) seem to be solid. Apple Play works, sound quality is good. Can't comment not he Mic-in handsfree quality until I'll get the right harness.
Customer Service note - Quadratec answered quickly and so did Alpine, so not complaints there.
