Reviews for WARN 101255 Winch Mount Plate for 18-23 Jeep Wrangler JL and Gladiator JT with Factory Steel Bumper
It's a little pricey, but its must have
It has good reviews
Does not flex under load. The old mount plate was a JCR plate and flexed under load.
As noted by others, some trimming of the existing bolt head is required. Otherwise installs per the instructions.
Gave 3/5 since I couldn't actually use it, but did review the workmanship. Solid, good finish, and packed all in bubble wrap. Unfortunately, it wouldn't work on my 2014 JKU with a 2018 steel bumper. It needs the JL/JT skid plate mounts on frame, won't mount only to bumper mounts/upper frame (sadly no). It was a xmas gift so off to ebay it goes. I attribute the misunderstanding to my bad research and an over-eager gift buyer
My review is pretty much in line with the other two reviews, but with a couple additional issues. The skid plate mounting bracket on the passenger side has a nut that interferes with the winch plate mounting bracket. I had to remove the nut to make it fit, but the bumper forward offset with the winch plate behind it caused the same issue with the skid plate mounting with the rear holes. My winch is a Warn Zeon 8 and the clearance between the winch and the bumper mounting bolts on the passenger side was too close and required me to grind down the bumper bolt nuts to get them back on. I also believe the tilted plate will be a collection point for mud and other debris. The winch rope slot in the bumper is very narrow and I needed to use 1/2" bolts on the roller fairlead so that it was raised up high enough to ensure that the winch cable clears the lower edge of the bumper slot. Overall, it it a sound installation, but certainly not the attention to detail that I expected from the Warn name.
First, I have to say the final product looks great and I am confident in the long-term strength of the product. But the installation can be problematic depending on your skid plate brackets. I drop it one star because the product was designed around skid plate brackets without welded on nuts. These may have been from the very first runs of the JL's. But my jeep had brackets with welded on nuts that did not allow the Warn support brackets to drop into proper position. See my photo to know what to look for before purchasing. Those nuts will have to be cut off to make it work. (I purchased two new brackets from the Jeep dealer for $12 each, cut off the problem nuts, and kept the original brackets for if I ever revert back to original.) I drop it another partial star for the design that places the plate between the bumper and frame as opposed to the Mopar plate that mounts behind the frame. Warn's design brings the bumper out 1/4" further - just enough to bring the two rear skid plate bolt holes out of alignment. A design mounted behind the frame to keep the bumper in original location would eliminate the problem. Another half star is dropped because the design looks like it will pond just a bit of water at the front of the plate because it tips forward but has no drain holes. Over time I can see this being filled with mud instead of water. If this becomes a problem, I will drill some drain holes.
