Reviews for Mountain Off-Road DPJL18DS Driver Side Dead Pedal for 18-21 Jeep Wrangler JL & Gladiator JT
Already received this direct from manufacturer when they first released it.Although I don't have my new JL yet so can't speak to having it installed, the product is clearly well-made a great quality-much nicer than the JK version in my opinion.
It's not that difficult to install than some of the reviews say. It's not easy but with patience and planning it's 20 mins job.
The build quality is solid and it's very sturdy when installed.
It fits my 2023 Rubicon 4xe perfectly.
The only concern or rather feedback I have is the pedal look and feel. It's not matching with rest of the pedals hence it looks after market. I prefer stock look so it's personal choice.
The length is purposely kept short so that it doesn't touch the mat. But it's little short for resting my foot.
I hope the edges will not hurt me anytime.
OK, I read the first three reviews and made the purchase. It is solid as others have pointed out. It did contain a hideous white branding sticker for MORE, that was crooked to top it off - that had to go. Speaking of crooked.... Attempted to install, and it is (can be) a complete PITA! I say can be, because I fiddled with it for 2 hours thinking I had to have the pedal perfectly straight to slide on to the backing plate studs. Only to find out, once I quit, that either the plate, or the studs were bent inward. It was NEVER going to slide on to the studs. Reading more reviews, others have said the same, so test that out before wasting valuable time. I simply used a vice grip to a table, slammed it with a hammer a couple of times, straightened it out so that it worked. And then it was a fairly quick install, but definitely not easy to get to that back nut bolt.
Wrangler JL 4xe owners, read on.
I always check alignment of welded parts because they are not always aligned well. In this case it was not any different. There is a bracket with two welded threaded bolts that goes well into the Jeep bracket mentioned in the instructions but it was off by maybe 1.5 millimeters (around one-sixteenth of an inch) shy which forced me to have to drill the bolt hole the next size up. I could have returned it but I really like the dead pedal to rest my left foot on so I acquiesced and drilled. Shouldn't have to do this but chose my battle on that one. The installation is really not easy. I considered removing the drivers side seat which would have made the install a lot easier but I eventually got the thing installed. We have a 2021 4xe which in this case has a module installed on the bracket required to mount the dead pedal on. Not sure what it does but was really careful with it since I really didn't know what it was responsible for. After about 2 hours of wrestling with the install, a couple of zip ties for the module and a whole lot of sweat, I got the pedal installed. I am definitely pleased but I gave this a 4 star because of the drilling required and it doesn't take less than an hour. I feel that timeline is a little misleading but it sells the product.
****IMPORTANT NOTE**** - it is required that you set the pedal position before installation and if I had to do it all over again, and I am not, I would have set it the pedal on the first notch and not the second. I am 67 inches tall (5'7") with an inseam of 32" so my leg length is pretty normal for my height. It is just fine where it is at but I would have preferred the pedal a little close.
Hope this helps anyone reading this and maybe save them a little trouble along the way.
1st MORE product. Very happy with the construction of the pedal itself. Solid piece.
However, whomever was running the machine shop on the day my bracket was made should have a firm talking to. My bracket was too short. Not that it was too short for the holes in the Jeep, it was too short for the dead pedal itself. You can tell by the welds on the bolts that someone wasn't paying very close attention.
What should have been a 30 minute install turned into 3 hours of cutting and grinding to make it work.
Would have given it five stars, but I’m not 16, 100 lbs and a gymnast, lol. The whole thing is very robust but you have to be very careful not to lose the bracket with the welded bolts behind the Jeep frame or the washers and nuts as well. I put it through and then put one of the nuts on it in case it slipped, then taped it to the frame. Also, you have to find the right combination of socket and extension to not get in the way of the pedals. FYI, I’m 5’ 8” and should have probably put it in the closest (to the driver) position.
If I was six years old and left handed it would have been MUCH easier to install...but after severe bruising I got it installed (2 hours). The product will do the job I requested.
Thank you
Rock solid product quality - this thing is built like a tank - and corrects a horrible oversight/omission by Jeep. Hard to quantify how much this helps. Minus one star because the total install is waaaay harder than it needs to be. Keep in mind this is all done in a pretty awkward position. Placing the backer plate and front plate isn't difficult at all. However, the tolerances are SUPER tight (not necessarily a bad thing) so if you need to remove it to adjust where the pedal is, you're going to struggle a bit. It has no back and forth wiggle room and it's too tight to pull straight off. Just have to pry it a bit. Do-able, but not easy at all.
The real issue is where the nut that holds the pedal is located. Nearly impossible to thread on initially and it takes A LOT of tool manipulation to actually tighten it. This could and does need to be reconsidered and fixed from a design standpoint.
Again, super solid quality and once it's on, it's a dream. But desperately needs a little design re-think.
Bit of a pain to install, just be careful to not lose the bracket as you are trying to work it into the 2 holes. Tie a piece of fishing line or thread on it in case it falls into the void below. Once in place, use a piece of duct tape to keep it there!
Once in, looks awesome and feels great on the road!
Very rugged and high quality materials and finishing. Makes driving much more comfortable. It's a pain to install and the only way to adjust it is to completely remove and reinstall.
