While a determined thief will still get the tire/wheel... the opportunist crackheads with free pipes wont have the brains to get by it.

I installed the lock in the winch as per instructions and tested lowering and raising my Jeep gladiator spare tire with the key attached to the jack, appeared to work. Kept the key in my center console. Couple weeks later wanted to lower spare tire to check air pressure, and to my dismay the installed lock was no longer in the winch, and must have fallen out. What a disappointment.
