Quadratec Lightweight Aluminum Cargo Rack with Jumbo Rain-Proof Cargo Storage Bag Reviews
Like many others that purchased this, we needed something to add extra storage for a long trip with our dog taking up most of the backseat. Assembly was rather easy; however it came pretty bent so boyfriend had to hammer a bunch of stuff into place to make it work, effectively voiding our warranty, but because it took so long to ship to us, we had no time to try and exchange for a better one (which I doubt we'd have gotten anyways; many people said theirs came bent, too). It does exactly what it claims; the bag is very good quality and holds quite a lot of stuff. As others have said, it is a bit of a hassle since the back door can't open more than a couple of inches while this is in place, but we knew from the get-go that it would be like this; just had to pack it last and take it off every time we needed to get into the back of the Jeep, but we got pretty good at it with (a lot of) practice. We were paranoid with only one pin attaching it to the vehicle, so got some extra cables from Walmart to clip the basket to our roof rack, making it extra sturdy. Never had any issues with it bouncing or moving too much; I never even noticed it while driving and we drove over 1800 miles.
I gave this review 3 stars because the biggest issue we had was communicating with Quadratec. It was nothing short of a huge migraine and if I can avoid it, I'll never order from this company again.
I placed the order November 11/12th (in the middle of the night, really), and it took 3.5 weeks to get to us (we received it in the first week of December). Being in Canada, we're used to shipping taking longer sometimes, but this was a whole other story. I waited a few days to reach out, because I thought maybe they were still packing it up or whatever the case was; I sent an email inquiry but that went unanswered for 7 days, so I finally just called, and it's a good thing I did. If I hadn't been checking the order constantly, we never would have known they put it on hold because they didn't know how to ship it to us - nobody tried to contact us first, we had to figure it out ourselves.
When I called, they told me they needed to figure out how to get it to us, because we're in Canada. I was told they needed to call different shipping companies to see who could do it for the best price (which they could've had done before I called and immediately provided me with quotes, or better yet, reached out to me with the quotes from the get-go). This process alone took DAYS. I called multiple times looking for updates; nobody could tell me anything and I was given rude responses that this process takes time. Sorry, but if you offer shipping to Canada, you should have every scenario and option figured out for when someone places an order like this. And it also shouldn't take more than a couple of hours (not DAYS) to make some phone calls and ask for prices. I spoke to probably 3-4 different people (some of which were utterly rude and unhelpful) and I realized these people weren't even communicating with each other - I kept getting different answers from everyone I spoke to. I even got a voicemail from someone saying they spoke to my boyfriend about it and what did he think of these price options etc., and that was 100% false - nobody spoke to him at all (and whoever this person was hadn't spoken to me, either). By the time I was ready to cancel the whole order, they told me it had finally shipped, so we just left it. The shipping cost more than the product itself, so in the end, it wasn't even worth it - we could've got a very similar product from WalMart or Canadian Tire, which we learned too late.
The product itself is pretty good (the bags are great), but I don't plan to order from Quadratec again.
everything went together well, bag seems high quality, can't wait to use it. One thing I will suggest is that when you put it together, just bring your whole wrench and socket set, because every single tool listed in the instructions is wrong. Seems there's been some switching between metric and SAE fasteners without updating the list.
Had to figure out storage while hauling my two large dogs in my JKU from New Jersey to Georgia for a family trip. After checking out roof racks this seemed like the most cost effective route. Cargo basket is sturdy and light. I can easily lift and attach myself. I had it put together in less than an hour. The cargo bag is awesome. Thick material, spacious and the tie downs were tight. I ended up fitting 95% of our stuff in it and the dogs had plenty room for the long drive. On the way home, we hit heavy rain from hurricane Florence for 9 straight hours. When I unloaded the bag at home not a drop of water had made it in and all of our belongings were bone dry. The only downside is not being able to open the tailgate when the rack is attached. Saved us a lot of money and hassle. Extremely happy with this purchase.
