There was a significant change to the Jeep TJ interior in 2003. The floor pan mounting points and the seat riser bolt patterns for 1997–2002 models are completely different from the 2003–2006 models. Because this adapter is engineered specifically for the later 2003–2006 floor mounts, it will not line up with the factory risers in your '97 TJ.
The Correct Way to Mount Bestop Trailmax II Seats in a '97 TJ:
Bestop Seat Adapter Brackets (#51256-01): These are the specific powder-coated brackets designed to mate Trailmax II seats directly to your existing factory 1997 risers. This is the most common solution, though it relies on your current risers being functional.
Replacement Sliders (76-95 Style): Interestingly, the Trailmax II seats use the older "CJ/YJ" bolt pattern on the bottom of the seat. For a 1997–2002 TJ, you typically use the Bestop brackets mentioned above to bridge the gap between that seat and your TJ riser.
