Rampage Products Combo Brief/Topper with Pocket in Black Denim Reviews
If I could, I would give this product a zero. Bought this back in February. Here are the key points, with respect to a 2006 Jeep TJ (stock):
No manual came with the top:
1.) There was a ton of tape on the top of the box. Had to destroy the lid to get into the box. There were no manuals/instructions inside the box. And of course there are no online resources (at least not that I could find after an hour searching). Nothing at Quadratec, nothing at Rampage, not on YouTube (isn’t everything on YouTube), nowhere. Quadratec help was right there for me and we did chat. But of course, we have to contact Rampage – who are naturally closed on the weekends.
Connecting to the windshield is an exercise in frustration:
2.) Because of the way the top is folded to fit a square box, the “tongue” that goes into the windshield channel (Yes, you have to buy a windshield channel) is folded. This makes it hard to insert the tongue and it pops out on its own, wanting to fold back on itself due to the way it was packaged.
3.) Side Velcro attachments don’t work with the door surround mounting points:
If you have a door surround, that has to be removed, as there are no provisions to accommodate the surround mounting bolts that go into the roll-bar. Which means you drive with just the lower half doors. Oh, and by the way, any after-market entry handles (like we all have) must come off. So now, my wife has a much harder time getting in!
4.) Speaker pods won’t let 4 of the 5 rear bikini straps install:
The two short middle-rear straps on the bikini portion of this top won’t install with the factory equipped Speaker/Light pods on the roll-bar, period. So if you have factory pods on your TJ, you have to remove the pods. AND, the two outer-rear straps don’t fit properly with the Pod, either. Based on how the straps are stitched to the top, you can tell how they are supposed to wrap around the roll-bar, but again, the speaker pods are right there. You have to take the straps a different direction and that means the top material is not stretched evenly, leaving waves in the top.
5.)The Rear Top section straps are just weird to install from what I can tell:
Having searched the web for over 30 minutes, I decided to watch the install of a frameless Rampage top and interestingly, the rear straps look just like the ones I have. Essentially, you take miles of strapping and wrap it around the rear roll-bar around the rear-upper seatbelt anchors (hmmm?) and then back up to the top to the cinch. And why is there no Velcro attachments to the sides like on the front?
