Smittybilt Vaulted Glove Box in Black Reviews
I like it. For the price the box is a very nice unit. Remove top tray before tackling bottom. Removal of old unit is best done using a Dremel or oscillating saw and piece out old unit. I don’t keep old parts. The lock is not the best deal and have to figure out a fix. It only has a key but needs a knob to open and close and a key to lock. Leaving key in for convenience is asking for an injury in my eyes. Maybe a foam cover for key. Nice solid install, grab bar very nice and handy and good space inside. Good purchase.
It was a bit difficult to install this due to removing the stock glove box. Once it was out, it was fairly easy to install the new "vault". It has as much if not more room than the stock unit, and the grab handle on the front makes it difficult for me to dislodge my front seat passenger.
My only complaint is that the door rattles a lot, and I haven't found a way t make it stop rattling.
Good quality and sturdy a good purchase. No big deal but the lock I got is different than the picture (standard key). Would be nicer if the key was not needed for closing the door. Removing the back nuts is a real issue, the access is a little difficult but the real issue in my case is that bolts turned with the nuts and there is no way to hold them. Ended up damaging the old one to take it out (it was in bad shape anyways that's why I was changing it). Fits perfect in my '88 YJ. Would buy it again.
