Description
Skyjacker Rock ready Springs are a Heavy Duty Military Wrapped Leaf Spring built in combination
with Skyjacker Softride Leaf Spring Technology. They are for the serious Offroad Enthusiast and
Competition vehicles where additional weight and/or extensive articulation come into play. It begins
with being Shot Peened to increase tinsel strength and longevity in the worst of environments. Also
100% Cycled and Set in advance they eliminate a break in period and guarantee a defect free
experience. As with All Skyjacker Leaf Spring Packs they are tapered leaves yielding more flex
on the leaf ends that feature a Teflon tip insert which distributes loads more evenly across the
whole spring pack. Load normally placed on only the main leaf is spread between the two top
leafs under articulation with this Military Wrapped Spring design to assure longevity and
ultimate performance in the most repetitive punishing conditions.

I bought a 1992 Jeep Wrangle YJ that has been around the salt water and the underneath is a bit rough, it has a 5 leaf leaf spring suspension plus a 2 inch body lift, it rides rough on our dirt road. I there a way to soften up the ride any without loosing the hieght ?

Softening the ride of a 1992 Jeep Wrangler YJ without losing the 4-inch lift height involves reducing the spring rate and improving the damping system. Because the YJ uses leaf springs on all four corners, it is inherently stiffer than newer coil-spring Jeeps, but there are several effective ways to improve its behavior on dirt roads.
1. Optimize Your Current Setup (Free to Low Cost)Before replacing parts, check these common "stiffness" culprits: Shackle Torque: This is the most common cause of a rough ride in YJs. The shackle bolts must be loose enough to allow the springs to move. If they are over-tightened, the suspension binds and cannot flex. They should typically be torqued to roughly 45-50 ft-lbs (check your specific shackle's instructions); some owners even use lock nuts and keep them "snug" rather than fully torqued to ensure movement. Tire Pressure: If you are running 33-inch or 35-inch tires at the "door sticker" pressure (usually 30+ PSI), the ride will be jarring. For a light YJ on dirt roads, try dropping your pressure to 22–26 PSI. This allows the tire sidewall to act as a secondary shock absorber. Ditch the Track Bars: Many YJ owners remove the front and rear track bars (panhard rods). On a leaf-spring vehicle, the springs already locate the axle. Removing these bars allows the suspension to cycle more freely without the binding that often causes a "rough" feeling on uneven dirt roads. 2. Upgrade to "Soft Ride" Components If your current springs are "rough" or budget-brand 5-leaf packs, they may simply have a high spring rate designed for heavy loads rather than comfort. Skyjacker Softride® Springs: These use a tapered leaf design and shot-peened steel to distribute loads more evenly, which creates more flex at the leaf ends and a smoother ride. The Rock Ready Double Military Wrap version (YJ45K) specifically adds a second wrap around the main eye for strength while maintaining that softer "Softride" rate. Shocks Matter More Than Springs: If your shocks are old or "stiff" nitrogen-charged units (like most budget lift shocks), they will transmit every pebble into the cabin. Hydraulic Shocks: Brands like Skyjacker Hydro 7000 are "softer" because they don't have the high-pressure gas charge that can make a light Jeep feel "bouncy". Premium Monotubes: Bilstein 5100s are highly recommended for YJs; they are valved to react more quickly to small bumps on dirt roads. 3. Advanced Mechanical Adjustments Greasable Shackles & Bushings: Standard rubber or polyurethane bushings can "stick" to the bolt. Replacing these with greasable bolts and high-quality bushings (like those from Old Man Emu or Skyjacker) significantly reduces friction, allowing the springs to actually do their job. Boomerang Shackles: These are specifically designed for YJs to prevent the shackle from "flipping" or hitting the frame. They can improve the shackle angle, which directly correlates to how easily the leaf spring can compress when you hit a bump.
Remove a Leaf (Use Caution): Some owners remove the shortest (bottom) leaf from a 5-leaf pack to soften the rate. While this will soften the ride, it usually results in 1/2" to 1" of height loss. Since you want to maintain your height, this is not recommended unless you compensate with a larger shackle or a thicker "zero-rate" block.

Does this go with the OEM U-bolts or need to purchase it separately ? And if so, kindly link them

You will need to replace them; part # UYJF for the front & UJ4R for the rear.
