Rubicon Express 2.5" Standard Suspension System with Twin Tube Shocks Reviews
This kit is great, it includes everything you need for the most part.
Went on easily in my garage with nothing more than basic tools and a small 21 gallon air compressor (although it did start to hate its life about halfway through).
The biggest hassle with this install was removing the 25+year old stock suspension on my 94 YJ. All the parts and hardware are superb quality and nothing feels cheaply made. Overall a great value kit that netted me almost 5" of lift due to how flat the factory leafs were and how blown the shocks were.
Now for the reason it got 4 stars instead of 5. There were a couple of hiccups that I feel I should pass on to anyone going to buy this kit, no reason not to buy it im very happy with it, just a heads up.
First the front track bar bracket instructions are a bit confusing, I just got off the phone with RE to straighten the issue out. This kit DOES NOT re-use the rear track bar, HOWEVER keep the mounting hardware when you take it off, this is what you will use to mount the front track bar onto the new bracket!
Second, and honestly a stupidly minor thing that I thought was way worse at the time. The packaging for the extreme duty sway bar disconnects does say "Bolt-on installation" This is because the packaging is old and 3-4 years ago the true bolt on disconnects were discontinued and these now come with a small tab that gets welded to the axle tube. That being said when i spoke with RE tech support I was told it is just fine to mount them to the stock spring plates in my case as I dont truly need the quick disconnect functionality, it was just recommended that I utilize a metal sleeve inside the lower joint since it is a 3/4" hole and the stock spring plate is about a 1/2" bolt so there would be some slop in it.
Third, I spoke to both Quadratec and RE about possibly including new frame side spring pins since I had to cut out my old ones ( I went with the greasable pins to avoid the pins fusing to the bushings again).
Other than those few relatively minor issues to work out that required a couple extra phone calls there was nothing in this install that gave me much of a headache.
Everytime I called in i felt like Quadratec might start recognizing my phone number and groaning thinking "great this guy again," but everyone I spoke to was great and if they didnt have the answers I needed they just said so instead of trying to give me the run around.
I love dealing with Quadratec and RE as well as they stood behind their product 100%
This lift is a good solid quality product. I ended up with just over 3.5" of lift over my stock springs once everything settled out. The lift will fit 32" tires without rubbing but 33" rub. If running a SYE the supplied 2.5 degree shims do not rotate the rear pinion up enough to eliminate vibration. You will need to install 6 degree shims to get the pinion angle correct. Also you will need the rear shock relocation brackets (RE2005) so the shocks will clear the axle tube (do not run the shocks upside down to clear the axle, they are not designed to be ran inverted). This is the only thing that I think the kit is missing. This lift was really a straight forward installation. The difficulty of installation depends on whether or not your suspension bolts are rusted in place or not. My suspension is relatively rust free and I was able to complete the installation in 2.5 hours. I would also highly recommend not reinstalling the front track bar. The suspension will cycle much more efficiently without it along with providing a better ride.
So far everything went on my 94 YJ very well. The shock replicators are a must, so order those also. I also got new shackles for a little extra lift. The only thing I have left at this point is to weld on the lower sway bar link bracket and front shocks. Yes, there is a little welding involved. It says it clears 31s, but I'm gonna try some 33s. I still have my 31s in case they don't fit.
