Rugged Ridge Performance Header in Mill 409 Stainless Steel Reviews
1993 Jeep Wrangler 4.0 registered in California.
I purchased this RR header (4/11/2019 Q945421700001) as a replacement of a poor quality Drake header (3/2/2015 W28115810000) also sold by Quadratec. Both purchases were intended to keep my daily driver vehicle registered and in compliance as a CARB legal “on highway use” vehicle. At the time of purchase, in both cases, the Quadratec web site provided information to satisfy my research that they were “CARB compliant for use in California”. Because this is a daily driver and subject to smog testing, I would only have purchased CARB approved products.
As of 12/26/2024 this product has been officially flagged by CARB as a non compliant header. I am currently unable to move forward with the registration process until CARB documentation for the RR product is satisfied or a CARB compliant header with documentation is installed or the vehicle exhaust is returned to the OEM device. It took five years and a random CARB QA/QI process to figure out that Quadratec most likely provided false and misleading information on their web description as late as 2019. This misguided purchase has created unnecessary vehicle expenditures and we will have made four trips to the CARB referee. I have reached out to Quadratec and Rugged Ridge days before this review to discuss a remedy that would help me satisfy the CARB compliance but I have not received any response to my initial inquiry. Such a sad state of affairs for both companies.
Currently, the Quadratec CARB description for this product is contradictory or misleading at minimum. I have no recollection of what was stated on the web in 2019 but be assured I would have moved away from this purchase if it was clearly stated as non CARB compliant and/or a refusal to ship to California. Yet I have the receipt with a California shipping address. It seems shipping a non compliant CARB device was no problem in 2019. These previous described actions certainly contradict their current position on the web with the current contradictory CARB disclaimer.
I will be purchasing a CARB compliant Banks header system (with the appropriate CARB registration numbers) for my vehicle to bring it back into compliance but I will not be going through this company for obvious reasons.
To say I am disappointed in Quadratec representation of this Rugged Ridge product would be an understatement . Too bad Rugged Ridge has not responded back on the CARB issues either.
