I have 1993 Jeep Wrangler YJ with 4 liter six cylinder & need to change fuel pump - does the size of gas tank matter?

I have a1987 YJ. The original 4.2L has been replaced with a 4.0L. Will this fuel pump work with the original fuel tank? I believe the 4.2L had a mechanical fuel pump.
