I'm upgrading a 92 short bed 2 wd automatic Comanche to a 4wd 4.0 AX-15 NP231 [93] 27 spline. Since my old doner had a Dana 44 with a 1" longer pinion housing than the D35 and the 92 has a 3" lift,the old drive shaft from the 91 Doner Comanche only engages about 1" into the 231 spline. Eventually I'm going to install the 44 so don't want to lengthen this shaft. Wondering if installing your extended shaft will be an option ?

No, installing this Crown Automotive 83503574 Rear Slip Yoke will not solve your engagement issue.
Yoke Function: This part is a replacement output yoke that slides onto the transfer case mainshaft to connect the driveshaft; it does not change or extend the physical depth or spline engagement length of the driveshaft slip joint itself.
The Core Problem: Because your current setup has a 3-inch lift and a shorter-than-ideal driveshaft slip engagement (currently sitting at roughly 1 inch), swapping this yoke will not bridge that physical gap.
Since you are planning to swap in the Dana 44 later—which has a longer pinion housing that will push the driveshaft slightly forward—your safest interim route to maintain proper spline engagement without risking a slip-out or damaging the transfer case output bushing is to have a custom driveshaft made to your current interim measurements, or use a temporary spacer/correctly sized shaft until the axle swap is complete.
