Reviews for Quadratec QRC Front Winch Ready Bumper for 18-24 Jeep Wrangler JL & Gladiator JT
I would give this a 4 star rating but it loses a star because of installation difficulty that appears to be an on going issue. The issue is that one of the wholes for the mounting the bumper, the driver side top to be specific, is about a 1/16 off. It makes it nearly impossible to align the bumper with out pushing it sideways after stating the other bolts. I was aware of this issue prior to purchasing this bumper as I have talked to others with this bumper and also have assisted a friend after he encountered the same situation. Also if you plan on adding factory fog lights, please be sure to enlist the help of someone with small hands and long fingers otherwise your in for a lovely hour or so of 4 letter words just to screw them in. All in all I think it comes down to poor manufacturing.
These are the reasons why I’d only give it 4 out of 5.
1st of all there are some spots where the powder coating missed. These are obviously spots where the hooks held it suspended while the coating was applied, but they should be addressed in the manufacturing.
2nd would be the welds especially on the interior part of the bumper. The welds are incomplete, they don’t travel the entire seam only parts of it. They are more than spot welds, they are just not full length welds. The welds are anything but pretty. And there were quite a few spots where the weld splattered other areas and was not cleaned off.
Other than some poor manufacturing/quality control issues the bumper functions great it is very sturdy and looks great. In my opinion the aesthetics are pleasing and go well with the Jeep.
I’m not disappointed that I purchased this bumper. I knew ahead of time about the poor bolt alignment and was prepared for it with a second jack and and set of hands. I hope this review helps with your decision.
Love the look of the bumper however I am having trouble with installing my winch to it. The back bolts are almost impossible to get to because of the design of the bumper. I have three of the four bolts installed but my hand has no room to bolt on the last one.
The install started out great but then we ran in to one bolt that kept on going in at an angle. The bolt stripped and I had to get a replacement. And it also would not go in all the way. Seven of the right bolts are solid. One bolt could only be driven in halfway. Also one of the side pipes is two inches away from the fender and the other is one inch away from the fender.
The full-length bumper is VERY heavy. I was able to install by myself with a floor jack, but it wasn't too difficult. The bumper will rest on the frame only about 1/4 - 1/2" below the bolt holes. It just needs lifted a little to get them started. I've had it on one winter with snow and salt and no sign of rust/corrosion yet. My big problem is the winch mount location. You can NOT install the winch with the bumper on the Jeep - you simply can't get to the bolts. With the winch and bumper, one person is probably not enough to put the bumper/winch back on the Jeep. Also, the mounting holes are TOO CLOSE to the grill. I had to re-drill the holes 1" closer to the front to get a small Warn EVO 8k winch to fit. Keep in mind, this was after mounting it to the bumper, mounting bumper to Jeep, then removing the whole thing again to drill new holes. It also was extremely difficult to drill with a standard hand drill because of the front hoop and clearance issues. So, if you buy this and intend to mount a winch, check the clearance and be prepared to drill new holes.
Mine is not even when comparing the right fender to the left fender. It actually touches on the right but is 3/4 of an inch away on the left. Makes it look a bit odd. Other than that I really like the bumper and the install is not to bad.
Bumper had rust spots after first night. Easy to install with exception of mounting fog lights. The hardware to mount to bumper made it almost impossible to mount the outer holes i ended up purchasing hardware that was made for normal sized fingers. Overall slightly disappointed with the rust
So my QRC bumper showed up amid the Covid quarantine. Which was awesome.
Box was damaged and bumper had small damage - bare metal showing (photos sent to quadratec)spray painted damage since I’m not shipping this thing back
Old bumper came off easy with help of Quadratec YouTube channel
Installed fog lights.
Holes were too small for provided screws to attach fog light mounting bracket - broke 3 drill bits trying to bore it out (good news- hard steel) finally fabbed some crap up to hold the lights in sturdy!
After that easy peasy slap it on and boom new bumper.
The welds are terrible. To put it in context, after I installed my wife came out who knows NOTHING about fabrication and looked at it and said immediately “why are these welds so terrible, are they just putty” the Shackle mounts also look welded poorly so I’m very leery about using them as anchor points to pull out of the mud. But once that happens I’ll update my review.
Also hilariously the Quadratec stamp everyone talks about on the front, was actually located on the bottom portion of the bumper and was rotated 90 degrees! Bahahahah
Overall like the look of the bumper, and I know it’s not the most expensive bumper but I was quite disappointed in this purchase. This is now 2 purchases of Quadratec private labeled purchases that are lower level quality.
Quadratec is usually awesome to work with, but I’ll be steering clear of their brand in the future .
Based solely on the results, this would be a 5. It looks amazing and is a good match for the JL. However, the install was a new level of frustration. If you are looking to spend and hour installing fog lights, this is the bumper for you. They use an ikea formula to attach them and if you strip a screw- you are SOL because of the size. I couldn’t even get my hands to a spot to put all the screws/nuts in, and gave up when I got it secure enough.
I’m a huge quadratec fan, and typically I buy because they think of the setup instead of just the part. However, this was a supreme disappointment. Glad it’s over and I can simply enjoy it.
The powder coating lasted about 1.5 years until it turned to rust. Disappointed in this coating - everything else was fine. Installation was good, did it myself. No other issues other than the extensive rust.
Loved this bumper when I first installed. But after a while the bumper started to rust everywhere. I now have to replace
