Aries Heavy Duty Swing Away Spare Tire Carrier Reviews
Alright guys listen up. Dont buy this carrier. If you have already, return it immediately. 1, it's very noisy and rattles when torqued to the specs in the instructions because it's not tight enough with the lock bolts that come included. 2, if you attempt to torque past the spec in the instructions the bolt will literally snap in half because of the cheap metal it's made of. 3, the rear light does not work. When following the instructions it tells you to fish the wire back through the door and out the louvers but the brake light wires dont reach that far (on a 17 wrangler). So you have to find your own wire and splice it to get it to reach then the way this was engineered you have to put the ground wire into a brass grommet that attaches to the bolt that holds the LED light up. Problem is that the grounding doesnt work and I had to hold the light up with a zip tie to avoid the metal bolt from touching the metal tire carrier that creates an improper ground to the LED light and gives a bad ohm reading to the light meaning the light pops the fuse at the M1 position (5amp) every time. If you ground to the door or body the fuse no longer pops but the light doesnt work. The only way for the light to work is to grind down the back of the light housing on the top to fit the zip tie and the bottom to fit the ground wire and then attach the ground wire directly to the brass ground on the control portion of the LED 3rd light. So now you have to hold up your brand new 3rd light with a zip tie and make an attempt to hide all the wires you had to re-route. Finally, at this point you could remove everything and attempt a return but you've already got it on and you already cut the wires for your factory light. I contacted Aries customer service on 10/20/17 and still have no resolution on 12/27/17. It's a nice product otherwise but until the light issue is fixed and they decide to spend 2 more dollars on better bolts, I'd stay away.
