These Rock Slide Engineering Generation III Steps Sliders are specifically designed for the 2018-2026 Wrangler JL 4 Door model, and offer a fully functional step that is actuated when the doors open and close. RSE utilizes 11-gauge steel for a super strong, protective and functional design, and then finishes off the product with a durable black textured powder coat for years of lasting performance. These steps automatically deploy when the doors are opened, extend a full 12" below the Jeep, and are perfect for lifted vehicles. Then, close the doors and the steps automatically retract to their original position. Should you wish to keep the steps in the retracted position, RSE also includes a rocker switch with wiring. Rock Slide Engineering Gen III Step Sliders Reviews
I purchased these for my 2026 392 and they installed and work great. I had an older version on a 2012 wrangler and Rock Slide improved on the already good design.
Durability and functionality
Purchased these for wife's 2022 JL 392. I performed install and the provided instructions were enough to figure it all out. These things are great! Very well built and work every time. Love 'em. If I had to pick one thing I don't like, it would be they tend to remind my shins that they are deployed. I just gotta open my eyes.
Questions
The Rock Slide Engineering Gen III Step Sliders rely on a pre-programmed electronic control module and internal motor stops. If a step is slamming or closing abruptly, it is usually caused by one of a few common issues:
Binding Linkages: Check the pivot points and linkages for grit, mud, or debris buildup that can restrict smooth movement.
Lubrication: Applying a dry PTFE or silicone lubricant to the pivot pins can free up any resistance causing jerky or hard closures.
Power Supply: Weak battery voltage or a poor ground can cause the motors to behave erratically.
On newer JL models equipped with these factory frame-mounted crash brackets, some owners find that the bracket sits closely or interferes with the front leg/bracket of aftermarket step sliders. If there is any contact during installation, it can typically be cleared by slightly trimming/notching the inner bracket or adjusting the slider placement, after which it bolts right up securely without compromising the step's operation or structural integrity.
Unlike other power steps that conflict directly with the newer frame-mounted brackets on 2026 models, the Gen III sliders utilize a body-mount bracket system along the pinch seam. If there is any minor proximity contact near the front leg, it can be easily cleared with a slight adjustment or minor trim of the inner plastic/bracket without needing to strip off the factory crash structure.
