Mopar 7 Way Round Trailer Connector Reviews
Works perfect for my 2 door JK. Be aware that there is not any spare length in the harness so routing was important. Heat shielding is provided in the correct places. High quality plug and play.
Easy install. Completely plug and play. Works great
I was happy to find that the wiring harness was no problem to install even with my wider VersaHitch hitch. The problem with the installation document is that it only shows one connector behind the rear tail light; however, there are actually two connectors there. The new harness connector will fit into either one. Use the bottom connector. I first tried the top connector and everything worked except the right turn signal. Moving the harness connector to the bottom connector fixed the problem.
Questions

How the Two Connections Work Together
Because the 7-way kit is a standalone harness, it creates its own "circuit" by plugging into the back of your taillights using T-connectors.
Your 4-Pin: Stays exactly where it is. It will continue to provide basic lighting (running lights, turn signals, and brakes) for small utility trailers.
The New 7-Way: Provides those same lighting signals PLUS three critical extra features that a 4-pin cannot handle:
Electric Brakes: The signal from an in-cab brake controller to the trailer.
12V Auxiliary Power: Constant power to charge a trailer battery or run interior camper lights while driving.
Reverse Lights: A signal to the trailer to turn on backup lights or disengage surge brakes.

Installation Difficulty: Is it "Plug and Play"?
For someone not handy with wiring, this is considered a moderate installation. While the main signal connections are plug-and-play, there are several steps that require more effort than a standard 4-pin kit:
T-Connectors (Easy): You will unplug your factory tail lights and "sandwich" the new Mopar connectors in between. This part is completely plug-and-play.
Power Wire Routing (Intermediate): You must run a long power wire from the rear bumper all the way up the frame rail to the Jeep’s battery. This requires using zip-ties and avoiding hot exhaust components or moving suspension parts.
Firewall Pass-through (Intermediate): To use the "Electric Brake" portion of the 7-way, you have to feed a wire through a rubber grommet in the firewall to connect to an under-dash brake controller (sold separately).
