Before there were ducks on dashboards. Before there were angry grilles, 40-inch tires, and enough aftermarket parts to build an entirely different vehicle. Before any of it, there was a simple olive-drab machine built for a world at war.

That machine, of course, was the Willys MB. And now, more than 85 years after the original Jeep first rolled into military service, the brand is looking backward once again with the debut of the 2027 Jeep Wrangler Sarge.

This custom model, also with a Gladiator edition for those truck-inspired enthusiasts, is the latest entry in Jeep's Twelve 4 Twelve celebration. It isn't inspired by superheroes, nostalgia, or some obscure piece of Wrangler culture. Instead, it reaches all the way back to the beginning. Back to the vehicle that started everything.

"The Jeep Wrangler and Gladiator Sarge limited editions reflect how we honor our Jeep brand heritage, not by looking backward, but by carrying its values forward," said Jeep Brand CEO Bob Borderdorf. "It's about purposeful design, authentic details, and building vehicles meant to be relied on, whether navigating demanding terrain or everyday roads, while staying true to our roots and meeting the expectations of our customers."

Of course, this isn't some stripped-down military replica. Beneath the heritage-inspired appearance sits a thoroughly modern Wrangler complete with today's technology, comfort features, and trail-proven hardware.

Finished in the popular ‘41 olive drab paint scheme and loaded with heritage cues, the Wrangler Sarge serves as a modern interpretation of the original Willys MB. It also offers an exclusive grille surround finished in either the same ’41 Green or a Bright White, vintage hood graphics, and a military-star graphic on the doors.

Other special edition features include bronze tow hooks, 17-inch wheels in matching ’41 Green, 33-inch BFGoodrich KO2 all-terrain tires, body colored fender flares, and Rubicon steel rock rails.

The military influence carries inside as well, where exclusive green and bronze trim details and commemorative touches continue the theme without overwhelming the cabin. A 1941-themed cupholder plaque, star-emblazoned shift knob, and HVAC graphics featuring Jeep’s seven-slot grille finish off the inside. It's subtle enough that owners won't feel like they're driving a parade float, yet distinctive enough that fellow Jeep enthusiasts will immediately understand the reference.

After all, the original Jeep wasn't designed to grab attention. It was designed to get the job done.

In a Wrangler lineup that now includes everything from luxury-focused trims to 470-horsepower V8 monsters, the Sarge feels like a reminder of why people fell in love with Jeep in the first place. Capability. Durability. Simplicity. The idea that if there's a trail ahead, you'll probably find a way through it. Or over it. Or around it.

Sarge marks Jeep’s eighth installment in the brand’s year-long ‘Twelve 4 Twelve’ campaign. Each model in the series arrives on the 12th of the month, with Jeep teasing upcoming vehicles through clues and hints before the official reveal.

The idea behind the program is simple: showcase the many sides of Wrangler: performance, heritage styling, personalization, and off-road capability, through a rotating lineup of unique special editions produced in limited numbers.

Earlier releases in the campaign have included models like the Moab 392, Wrangler Whitecap, Wrangler 85th Edition, Willy’s 392, and last month’s Wrangler America250.
