At first glance, it seems like a jaw-dropping price. A little under $87k for the latest and greatest Grand Cherokee - a Trackhawk monster on steroids boosted by 707 horses tossed out of its 6.2L V8 engine which also unleashes 645 lb-ft of torque.

That starting price certainly puts it square at the top of Jeep-branded vehicles, and maybe just this fact is enough to discourage many, but to the crowd Fiat Chrysler Automobiles is looking to capture - the ones currently typing in Porsche Cayenne Turbo S, or BMW X5M into their smartphones - it is actually considerably less expensive than those competitors.

Like we said, this Grand Cherokee Trackhawk is a performance beast and packs more power than any other performance SUV in the world, while its 0-60 mph time of 3.5 seconds and 11.6-second quarter mile time makes this SUV the quickest sold in the world. But acceleration isn't everything on this vehicle. Thanks to massive Brembo brakes and adjustable suspension system, the Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk also lays claim to the ultimate high performance SUV, boasting a 60-0 stopping distance of 114 feet.

“The 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk delivers astounding performance numbers, backed by renowned SRT engineering that combines world-class on-road driving dynamics with luxury, refinement and an array of innovative advanced technology,” said Jeep Brand Head Mike Manley in a company release. “As the most powerful and quickest SUV, there is nothing else like the Grand Cherokee Trackhawk in the market, and with its starting price of $85,900 (plus a $1,095 destination charge), there is no better value for a high-performance SUV.”

In comparison, BMW's X5M offers up 567 hp and 553 lb-ft of torque, runs to 60mph in four seconds and has a price right about $101,000. Mercedes Benz competes with its AMG GLE at 577 hp and 561 lb-ft of torque, hits 60 mph in 4.1 seconds and has a price starting at $110,000. The Porsche Cayenne Turbo S is the Grand Cherokee's closest competitor with 570 hp and 590 lb-ft of torque, gets to 60 mph in 3.8 seconds and costs $162,600.

Standard performance items on the 2018 Grand Cherokee Trackhawk include Launch Control, a TorqueFlite eight-speed automatic transmission delivering improved shift response, and drivability, a 7,200 lb towing capacity, and Jeep Quadra-Trac on-demand four-wheel-drive system which includes an electronic limited-slip rear differential and a single-speed active transfer case.

While there isn't a price yet on options, they will include a dual-pane panoramic sunroof, three-season tires, lightweight 20 x 10-inch forged aluminum Low Gloss Black wheels, fully wrapped Signature Leather Interior Package in Black or Black/Dark Ruby Red, 19-speaker Harman Kardon high-performance audio system, dual-screen rear-seat entertainment center with Blu-ray, trailer tow package and Dark Ruby Red seatbelts.

The Trackhawk will be available in nine colors: Billet Silver, Granite Crystal, Diamond Black, Ivory Tri-coat, Bright White, Velvet Red, Rhino, Redline 2, and True Blue.

The vehicle officially goes on sale Thursday, August 10th, 2017, and should roll into showrooms later this fall.
