Here’s the latest news and information.
Stellantis Shifts Gear: Ram 1500 EV Cancelled, Midsize Truck & Hybrid Plans Take Over
Stellantis has officially pulled the plug on its fully electric Ram 1500 EV (formerly the Ram 1500 REV), citing weak demand for large battery-electric trucks in North America.
Instead of going full battery-electric, the company is repurposing the “REV” name for a range-extended model previously known as the Ramcharger. This version uses a gas engine to support its electric drivetrain, a compromise aimed at delivering better range and utility than pure EVs have managed in this segment.
Stellantis is also preparing to reopen its Belvidere Assembly Plant in Illinois to build a new midsize Ram pickup by 2027. This move revives a long-awaited section of its lineup and brings back domestic production for that segment.
The company’s strategy shift reflects broader industry trends: EV hype has cooled in some sectors, especially full-size trucks, as buyers worry about range, towing capacity, cost, and charging infrastructure. Hybrids and range-extended vehicles are seen now as more realistic bridges to electrification.
For Ram and Jeep owners, this means electric models are still on the horizon, but perhaps not in the form originally promised. ICE and hybrid powertrains aren’t being abandoned, they’re being leaned into—especially where buyers demand capability and practicality.
Jeeps & Java — Halloween Edition
