Reviews for Harken 7803.JEEP Hoister Garage Storage 4-Point Lift System for 87-24 Jeep Wrangler JL, JK, TJ & YJ
Works great. I put foam around where the straps touch the roof just to be safe but it sure made a huge difference in the ease of taking the roof off.
One of the best ideas for removing the top. I used to use 4 straps and was a pain. This works so much better.
I helped a buddy install one which led to the first symptoms of Jeep fever. Got my own JKU and installed a hoist at home. You need someone to help hold the 2x6s against the ceiling (Thx GF!) but the rest is a 1-person DIY. Since then I have installed another for a local pilot buddy. I looked a making one myself, but had $90 in pulleys before I ordered any rope, and realized this is the way to go. I only have an 8' ceiling but my garage is a car and a half long so I made it work. I would add a nautical style cleat to your wall to keep the rope out of the way. One of my best Jeep accessory purchases for sure! - Jim C
Fun weekend project; reliable and convenient at a very reasonable price. These guys do sailboat rigging so they understand how to assemble the right gear for the job. I am not handy enough to cobble together the pieces at a lower cost and still trust my work to suspend a cumbersome $2500 hard top. Pro tip: I put microfiber towels between the straps and the top to protect the rubber seals from compression damage and prevent scratching from the metal buckles. My hard top hangs all summer while I'm running the soft top.
If I ever build another house I will ensure that the garage is UNFINISHED! Good lord...93 degree Florida weather makes for a hell of a time setting this up. Having said that...its awesome. My wife and I can make short work of getting the top off and now it stays off most of the time.
A must have easy to use by yourself
Overall this hoist system is exactly what I was looking for. The install isn’t terrible but does take half a day if you do everything methodically, which helps when you start drilling into the ceiling. The only part that I struggled with was the knots. I know that this might be a me thing but dang trying to figure out what the in the world the video and instructions were trying to illustrate took me some time. I did install two cleats on my wall for the additional rope and as a safety measure Incase the locking mechanism ever does fail. System lifts the top very smoothly and lowering it, with control, has not been an issue at all.
Overall, the hoist works as promised. The install was challenging...definitely a two person job. Locating the ceiling joists and attaching the support 2x6 boards was the biggest hurdle...everything else was pretty easy. Once installed though, my wife and it removed the hardtop within a few minutes, lowered it to the garage floor, and safely secured it on a hardtop dolly for the summer.
Product works great. I also had a harder time with the install but I am no expert handyman. Instructions and videos could have been more clear with adjusting heights of straps properly and tying knots. Took me more than a few hours to complete and get everything adjusted and leveled. Now that its done, though, works perfectly and I can removal and install top both in less than 10 minutes completely solo.
works great
