When Poison Spyder developed this swing-out tire carrier they had a few requirements that had to be met. At the top of the list was strength. That's why they decided to have it mount directly to your Jeep JK's frame to avoid added stress to the vehicle’s tailgate, body, or bumper. Spare tires can be heavy and that can cause damage over time, especially if you're running aftermarket wheels and tires that are larger than the stock set. Another important requirement was convenience so they made opening and closing possible with one hand in one single action. The carrier and tailgate are tethered together so that they'll open and close in tandem. Poison Spyder has configured it to not only keep the gate and carrier aligned when open, but to also stay firmly fixed in place so it won't rattle when you’re on the road or the trail. A third requirement Poison Spyder wanted to meet is that the carrier would have a high-clearance design. It uses a concealed pivot point that is set in close to the Jeep's body which ultimately results in better clearance for off-road or trail riding. The Poison Spyder frame mounted tire carrier can be adjusted up, down, in, or out making it capable of supporting tires up to 40" and uses a mounting plate to accommodate a variety of wheel bolt patterns (5 x 5" as well as 5 x 4.5", 5 x 5.5", 6 x 5.5", and 8 x 6.5"). So not only can it support a variety of wheel and tire combos, but it can set the tire as low as possible to ensure a low center of gravity. If you choose to move your license plate, it can be relocated to the center of the spare tire with the included plate mount. This carrier is compatible with Poison Spyder’s Bruizer and Crawler series rear bumpers and can be installed without any modification to the bumper itself, however it will need to be removed to complete the carrier installation. It also works with previous generation RockBrawler II series rear bumpers that were originally purchased without an integrated tire carrier, although some minor modifications are required.
Note: Requires use of either 17-65-010P1 JK Crawler Rear Bumper or 17-67-010P1 JK Bruiser Rear Bumper.
