2009 Wrangler Gets an Upgrade

For the 2009 model year, Jeep made its first real changes to the JK series by adding several new safety features as well as some cosmetic upgrades. First, the company put in Hill Start Assist (HSA) to help prevent rollback on graded surfaces, and then incorporated Trailer Sway Control (TSC) that monitored vehicle movement while towing, relative to its intended path. If the Wrangler began to sway outside set parameters, its computer would activate the Electronic Stability Program (ESP). A new center dome lamp with directional lighting, drop in center console bin, and cargo nets for additional storage rounded out interior changes.

Exterior colors for the 2009 Wrangler included black, metallic gray, deep water blue, detonator yellow, flame red, green metallic, stone white, sunburst orange, and surf blue. Interior colors were black and dark slate.

Jeep continued its three-tiered system for this model year, with the X, Sahara and Rubicon all available in both 2- and 4-door options. All 2-door Wranglers came with a 2,000lb maximum towing capacity, while 4-door vehicles increased to 3,500lb capacity. Vehicle pricing increased a small amount as well for 2009, with the X trim opening at $20,710, Sahara at $26,295, and Rubicon $28,815. Jeep also offered a special edition for this year called the Rocky Mountain – which was a X-model Wrangler with options such as steel tubular side steps, body colored fenders, 6-disc CD, and 18-inch wheels on 32-inch tires.

All models were offered with a standard 3.6L V6 engine which pushed out 205 horsepower and 240 ft-lbs of torque in 4-door models, and 202hp, 237 ft-lbs of torque in 2-door editions. Fuel economy remained equal to previous models at 15/19 mpg city/highway. Transmission options included a 6-speed manual and 4-speed automatic. Wrangler X and Sahara vehicles came with Dana 30 front / Dana 44 rear axles, but select X models had optional Dana 44 axles with TracLok. Wrangler X vehicles also ran with 16” wheels, while the Sahara offered 18” rims and Rubicon 17”.

Other features such as front and rear solid axles, hard or soft top options, removable doors and mirrors, two-speed transfer case, fold down windshield and full size tailgate-mounted spare tire remained standard.

As well equipped as your 2009 Wrangler is from the factory, there is always room for improvement! You can check out all the available 2009 Jeep Wrangler accessories here.
