What's new for the 2017 Wrangler?

The Jeep Wrangler brand enters 2017, one of its last years under the current platform, on a bright design note – specifically bright LED headlights and foglights that now come standard on Sahara and Rubicon models, while optional for Sport and Sport S editions.

As far as model choices for 2017, Jeep enthusiasts can take note the standard models are all back in the Sport (base MSRP $23,995), Sport S (base MSRP $26,995), Sahara (base MSRP $30,445), and Rubicon (base MSRP $33,645). There are also several special editions appearing in stages throughout the year, including Sport Freedom, Sahara Winter, Sport Big Bear, Sahara Chief, Sahara Smokey Mountain, and Rubicon Recon.

New colors for 2017 will include Chief (powder blue), Acid yellow, Gobi (pale green), and Xtreme Purple (now available across entire lineup). Returning colors are Billet Silver, Black, Bright White, Firecracker Red, Granite Crystal, Rhino, and Hyper Green.

Highlights for 2017 are, once again, the return of Jeep’s award-winning 3.6-liter Pentastar V-6 engine across all models that delivers 285 horsepower and 260 lb.-ft. of torque, while providing fuel economy hovers around 17/21 mpg city/hwy. In addition, tow capacity remains 2,000 lbs (2dr) and 3,500 lbs (4dr). All models are available in either 6-speed manual or 5-speed automatic transmissions.

Also returning for 2017 are the vehicle’s classic round headlamps, seven-slot grille, wheel flares, removable doors, exposed hinges, a fold-down windshield and removable tops that allow the Wrangler to retain the brand’s iconic appearance and function. Standard electronic stability control (ESC), electronic roll mitigation, trailer-sway control, Hill-start Assist and brake traction control are also standard features.

Inside the vehicle, a standard eight-speaker audio system is standard, while and an optional premium Alpine Audio Package includes nine Alpine speakers, a subwoofer and a 552-watt amplifier. Interior colors include black, black/dark saddle, and black/dark olive.

The Wrangler Sport and Sahara models for 2017 include a standard Dana 30 front axle and Dana 44 rear axle, as well as a Command-Trac NV241, part-time, two-speed transfer case that features a 2.72:1 low-range gear ratio. An optional Trac-Lok limited-slip rear differential will provide extra torque and grip in low-traction environments such as sand, mud or snow for those who wish that extra traction control. Wheel sizes for the Sport are still 16”, while Sahara offers 18” wheels standard.

The Wrangler Rubicon model features heavy-duty Dana 44 front and rear axles and a Rock-Trac NV241 two-speed transfer case with a 4.0:1 low-range gear ratio. The Rubicon also includes electric front and rear locking differentials, disconnecting front sway bar and 32” tires on 17” rims for the ultimate in off-road capability.

As well equipped as your 2017 Wrangler is from the factory, there is always room for improvement! You can check out all the available 2017 Jeep Wrangler accessories here.
